Disney is bringing back<\/a> Jimmy Kimmel\u2019s late-night talk show, but a notable chunk of ABC affiliates won\u2019t air the new episodes. Nexstar and Sinclair Broadcasting \u2014 which control about one quarter of local ABC stations, according to Deadline<\/em><\/a> \u2014 announced that they will continue to preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! <\/em>and air different programming in that timeslot instead.<\/em><\/p>\n

Last week, FCC Chair Brendan Carr said broadcasters will need to \u201cfind ways to change conduct to take action on Kimmel\u201d or else face FCC involvement following Kimmel\u2019s comments about politicians\u2019 reactions to the shooting of Charlie Kirk<\/a>, before Disney temporarily suspended the show<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Hollywood Reporter<\/em> notes<\/a> <\/em>that <\/em>Sinclair owns or controls 38 ABC affiliates, while Nexstar operates 28 stations. The blackout means the show won\u2019t air in several major markets across the US, including Portland, Oregon; New Orleans, Louisiana; Nashville, Tennessee; Salt Lake City, Utah; Richmond, Virginia; Seattle, Washington, and others, accounting for around 25 percent of the US TV audience. Nexstar says Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/em> will still be available \u201cnationwide on multiple Disney-owned streaming products.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

During the Concordia Annual Summit on Monday, Carr denied that the FCC influenced decisions around the show, claiming, \u201cJimmy Kimmel is in the situation that he\u2019s in because of his ratings, not because of anything that\u2019s happened at the federal government level,\u201d as reported by Variety<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Nexstar issued a statement on Tuesday saying the broadcaster stands by Disney\u2019s original decision to suspend the show \u201cpending assurance that all parties are committed to fostering an environment of respectful, constructive dialogue.\u201d Sinclair similarly said that its affiliates will replace Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/em> with news programming while it evaluates the \u201cpotential return\u201d of the show.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
