Trump filed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2021\/7\/7\/22566729\/trump-lawsuit-facebook-twitter-google-social-media-censorship\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sweeping lawsuits<\/a> against Google-owned YouTube, Meta (then Facebook), and X (then Twitter) after he was suspended from the platforms, and now all three companies have settled with the president.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">YouTube will pay $24.5 million, with $22 million going toward <a href=\"https:\/\/nationalmall.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Trust for the National Mall nonprofit<\/a> to help \u201csupport the construction of the White House State Ballroom,\u201d the settlement document says, and $2.5 million will go to other plaintiffs. The full settlement is slightly less than the $25 million Meta agreed to pay <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/602577\/meta-trump-facebook-lawsuit-settlement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in January<\/a>, and the <em>WSJ<\/em> says that Google executives were \u201ceager to keep their settlement smaller than the one paid by rival Meta.\u201d X settled for about $10 million <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/611736\/donald-trump-twitter-x-lawsuit-settlement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in February<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Trump was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2021\/1\/12\/22218757\/youtube-trump-account-video-deleted-uploads-suspension-indefinite\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">suspended from uploading new videos<\/a> in January 2021 after the attack on the Capitol on January 6th, with YouTube citing \u201cconcerns about the ongoing potential for violence.\u201d YouTube lifted the restrictions in March 2023, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/3\/17\/23644748\/donald-trump-youtube-suspension-lifted-presidential-campaign\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">saying that<\/a> it \u201ccarefully evaluated the continued risk of real-world violence, while balancing the chance for voters to hear equally from major national candidates in the run up to an election.\u201d<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>YouTube has settled a lawsuit President Donald Trump filed against the company in 2021, according to The Wall Street Journal.
