It incorporates Perplexity\u2019s AI search tools and a personal AI assistant that, in the company\u2019s words, actually \u201ctravels the web with\u201d users, instead of being \u201ctacked onto a traditional browser.\u201d It\u2019s supposed to make surfing the web simpler and help you with tasks like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/11\/18\/24299574\/perplexity-ai-search-engine-buy-products\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shopping<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2025\/1\/9\/24339020\/perplexity-tripadvisor-integration-hotels\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">booking trips<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/709025\/perplexity-comet-ai-browser-chrome-competitor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general life admin<\/a>. To borrow the company\u2019s words again: you \u201cget more done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">The AI-powered browser <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/703037\/perplexity-ai-web-browser-comet-launch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">launched in July<\/a>, though was only available for users who subscribed to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/697108\/perplexity-now-has-a-200-per-month-ai-subscription-too\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$200 per month Perplexity Max plan<\/a>. Later, Perplexity expanded this to include \u201cselect\u201d subscribers of its cheaper Pro plan and lucky invitees on what the company says is now a millions-strong waitlist. No subscription at all will be needed to use Comet going forward, the company says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Perplexity has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.perplexity.ai\/hub\/blog\/announcing-comet-plus-launch-partners\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">also revealed its launch partners for Comet Plus<\/a>, the subscription package it announced in August that gives users access to curated news content in a scheme CEO Aravind Srinivas <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-08-25\/perplexity-to-let-publishers-share-in-revenue-from-ai-searches\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">likened<\/a> to Apple News Plus.\u00a0The list currently includes:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>CNN<\/li>\n<li>Conde Nast<\/li>\n<li>Fortune<\/li>\n<li>Le Figaro<\/li>\n<li>Le Monde<\/li>\n<li>The Los Angeles Times<\/li>\n<li>The Washington Post<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Access to Comet Plus is included for subscribers to Perplexity Pro and Max, and $5 per month for all other users.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Perplexity is not alone in its quest to bring AI to the internet. Google has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/google\/673659\/gemini-google-chrome-integration-agentic-era\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">infused Gemini into Chrome<\/a>, The Browser Company \u2014 the makers of the Arc browser \u2014 is going all in on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/web\/685232\/dia-browser-ai-arc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dia<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/787707\/opera-neon-ai-browser-launch-monthly-cost\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Opera just launched its own AI browser<\/a>, Neon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\"><em><strong>Correction, October 2nd:<\/strong> An earlier version of this article was based on incorrect information we were given about the pricing of Comet Plus.
