On Thursday, he highlighted examples of <em>Fortnite<\/em> lookalikes that are currently on the App Store and made a direct appeal to Apple CEO Tim Cook.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">In <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TimSweeneyEpic\/status\/1923095640394916069\" target=\"_blank\">one post<\/a>, Sweeney included screenshots of the App Store listing for a game called <em>Fort Battle Royale Epic Shoot<\/em>. A screenshot in the app listing shows a game with <em>Fortnite<\/em>-inspired graphics, but it\u2019s clear if you look closely that it isn\u2019t the real <em>Fortnite<\/em>. \u201cHey @AppStore can we get the real Fortnite up pls?\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TimSweeneyEpic\/status\/1923096606972215510\" target=\"_blank\">Sweeney asked<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Soon after, Sweeney <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TimSweeneyEpic\/status\/1923120512189763697\" target=\"_blank\">said that<\/a> <em>Fort Battle Royale Epic Shoot<\/em> had been taken down from the App Store but also highlighted another <em>Fortnite<\/em> clone, <em>Epic Survival Battle Royale 3D<\/em>. That app, as of this writing, is still available on the App Store. (Apple has something of a history of letting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/657370\/blue-prince-ios-port-app-store\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unofficial<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2022\/1\/11\/22879295\/wordle-clones-app-store-removal-online-backlash-copycats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fakes<\/a> of popular games slip onto the store.)<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Update: Apple has taken down Fort Battle Royale Epic Shoot. How about if you let our mutual customers access Fortnite? Just a thought,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TimSweeneyEpic\/status\/1923133214748471391\" target=\"_blank\">Sweeney wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Shortly after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/659246\/apple-epic-app-store-judge-ruling-control\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">April 30th ruling<\/a> in <em>Epic Games v. Apple<\/em> that blocked Apple from charging a fee on purchases made outside the App Store, Sweeney announced that Epic would bring <em>Fortnite<\/em> back to the US iOS App Store <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/659271\/fortnite-ios-apple-app-store-us-return\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cnext week.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Epic said it submitted <em>Fortnite<\/em> to Apple <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/664245\/epic-submitted-fortnite-to-apple\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on Friday, May 9th<\/a>, but the app hasn\u2019t yet been approved. (Apple\u2019s website <a href=\"https:\/\/developer.apple.com\/distribute\/app-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">says that<\/a> \u201con average, 90 percent of submissions are reviewed in less than 24 hours.\u201d)<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Sweeney <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/667206\/epic-submitted-a-new-version-of-fortnite-to-apple\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said yesterday<\/a> that the company submitted a new version because \u201cwe need to release a weekly Fortnite update with new content this Friday, and all platforms must update simultaneously.\u201d But that updated submission still hasn\u2019t been approved, either.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">\u201cWe don\u2019t have an update on our <em>Fortnite<\/em> submission to the App Store,\u201d Sweeney said <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TimSweeneyEpic\/status\/1923081155089183012\" target=\"_blank\">earlier on Thursday<\/a>. \u201cApple has neither accepted nor rejected it.
