Microsoft Azure, the company\u2019s cloud computing service, is experiencing an outage just one week after issues with AWS took out swaths of the internet<\/a>. The issues appear to be impacting Microsoft\u2019s services that run on Azure, including Microsoft 365, Xbox, and even Minecraft<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Microsoft confirmed Azure portal issues<\/a> on the service\u2019s status page, adding that the outage started around 12PM ET:<\/p>\n

Starting at approximately 16:00 UTC, customers and Microsoft services that leverage Azure Front Door (AFD) may have experienced issues resulting in latencies, timeouts and errors. We have confirmed that an inadvertent configuration change as the trigger event for this issue\u2026 Customers may have experienced problems accessing the Azure management portal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Azure support page says Microsoft doesn\u2019t have an ETA for when it will finish rolling back the change that may have caused the outage.<\/p>\n

At 12:25PM ET, Microsoft 365\u2019s status account on X<\/a> said the company is investigating reports of \u201cissues accessing Microsoft 365 services and the Microsoft 365 admin center.\u201d A Microsoft 365 update posted<\/a> at 1:02PM ET said the company \u201cidentified portions of internal infrastructure that are experiencing connectivity issues,\u201d and that it\u2019s working to \u201creroute affected traffic to restore service health.\u201d Meanwhile, Xbox\u2019s status page<\/a> isn\u2019t even loading.<\/p>\n

The outage goes beyond Microsoft\u2019s services, as Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines say they are<\/a> \u201ccurrently experiencing a disruption to key systems, including our websites\u201d due to issues with Azure. The airlines advise customers to see an agent at the airport to get their boarding pass if they can\u2019t check in for their flight online. <\/p>\n

Community Fibre, an internet provider in the UK, similarly confirmed that some customers<\/a> may be experiencing issues due to the Microsoft outage. Additionally, Kroger is telling<\/a> customers that its site and mobile apps are \u201cexperiencing an unexpected outage,\u201d while Starbucks\u2019 and Costco\u2019s websites aren\u2019t loading, and users are reporting issues with Capital One.<\/p>\n

The outage comes just hours before Microsoft is set to report its earnings results this afternoon. The Verge<\/em> reached out to Microsoft with a request for more information but didn\u2019t immediately hear back.<\/p>\n

Reports of issues with Azure began spiking on DownDetector<\/a> at around 12PM ET, coinciding with reports of an outage across Microsoft 365 and Xbox. It seems the outage may be global, as some Reddit users based in the US<\/a> and UK say<\/a> they\u2019re unable to access Azure\u2019s portal.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
