OpenAI says ChatGPT\u2019s behavior \u201cremains unchanged\u201d after reports across social media falsely claimed that new s updates to its usage policy prevent the chatbot from offering legal and medical advice. Karan Singhal, OpenAI\u2019s head of health AI, writes on X<\/a> that the claims are \u201cnot true.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cChatGPT has never been a substitute for professional advice, but it will continue to be a great resource to help people understand legal and health information,\u201d Singhal says, replying to a now-deleted post from the betting platform Kalshi that had claimed \u201cJUST IN: ChatGPT will no longer provide health or legal advice.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Singhal, the inclusion of policies surrounding legal and medical advice \u201cis not a new change to our terms.\u201d<\/p>\n

The new policy update on October 29th<\/a> has a list of things you can\u2019t use ChatGPT for, and one of them is \u201cprovision of tailored advice that requires a license, such as legal or medical advice, without appropriate involvement by a licensed professional.\u201d<\/p>\n

That remains similar to OpenAI\u2019s previous ChatGPT usage<\/a> policy, which said users shouldn\u2019t perform activities that \u201cmay significantly impair the safety, wellbeing, or rights of others,\u201d including \u201cproviding tailored legal, medical\/health, or financial advice without review by a qualified professional and disclosure of the use of AI assistance and its potential limitations.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

OpenAI previously had three separate policies, including a \u201cuniversal\u201d one, as well as ones for ChatGPT and API usage. With the new update, the company has one unified list of rules that its changelog says \u201creflect a universal set of policies across OpenAI products and services,\u201d but the rules are still the same.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
