Campbell\u2019s is insisting that its soups aren\u2019t made with 3D-printed chicken, lab-grown chicken, or bioengineered meat. The food giant issued the explanation<\/a> on its website after leaked audio allegedly captured<\/a> Campbell\u2019s vice president of information technology saying the company\u2019s meat \u201ccame from a 3D printer.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA recent video contained false comments about our ingredients,\u201d Campbell\u2019s writes. \u201cThe comments heard on the recording about our food are not only inaccurate, they are absurd. We do not use lab-grown chicken or any form of artificial or bioengineered meat in our soups.\u201d It adds that the company only uses chicken from \u201creputable\u201d suppliers in the US that meet USDA standards.<\/p>\n

The audio was released as part of a lawsuit filed against Campbell\u2019s by a former employee, who claims to have recorded a conversation with IT VP Martin Bally. During the conversation<\/a>, the person purported to be Bally makes racist remarks, while calling Campbell\u2019s food \u201cbioengineered\u201d and for \u201cpoor people.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEven in a can of soup, I look at it \u2014 and look at bioengineered meat,\u201d the person in the recording says. \u201cI don\u2019t want to eat a fucking piece of chicken that came from a 3D printer, do you?\u201d<\/p>\n

3D-printed chicken isn\u2019t entirely something out of a sci-fi movie. KFC, which has had to deal with its own chicken-related conspiracies<\/a>, said it was working with a Russian firm in 2020<\/a> to develop a way to \u201cprint\u201d lab-grown chicken nuggets using chicken cells and plant material.<\/p>\n

Campbell\u2019s has put Bally on leave<\/a> while it investigates the alleged comments. \u201cKeep in mind, the alleged comments heard on the audio were made by a person in IT, who has nothing to do with how we make our food,\u201d Campbell\u2019s says.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
