Microsoft employees have discovered that any emails they send with the terms \u00ab\u00a0Palestine\u00a0\u00bb or \u00ab\u00a0Gaza\u00a0\u00bb are getting temporarily blocked from being sent to recipients inside and outside the company. The No Azure for Apartheid<\/a> (NOAA) protest group reports that \u00ab\u00a0dozens of Microsoft workers\u00a0\u00bb have been unable to send emails with the words \u00ab\u00a0‘Palestine,\u00a0\u00bb \u00ab\u00a0Gaza,\u00a0\u00bb and \u00ab\u00a0Genocide\u00a0\u00bb in email subject lines or in the body of a message.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Words like ‘Israel’ or ‘P4lestine’ do not trigger such a block,\u00a0\u00bb says NOAA organizer Hossam Nasr. \u00ab\u00a0NOAA believes this is an attempt by Microsoft to silence worker free speech and is a censorship enacted by Microsoft leadership to discriminate against Palestinian workers and their allies.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

Microsoft confirmed to The Verge<\/em> that it has implemented some form of email changes to reduce \u00ab\u00a0politically focused emails\u00a0\u00bb inside the company.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Emailing large numbers of employees about any topic not related to work is not appropriate. We have an established forum for employees who have opted in to political issues,\u00a0\u00bb says Microsoft spokesperson Frank Shaw in a statement to The Verge<\/em>. \u00ab\u00a0Over the past couple of days, a number of politically focused emails have been sent to tens of th \u2026<\/p>\n
