As reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geekwire.com\/2026\/microsofts-carbon-emissions-climb-25-as-tech-giants-grapple-with-ais-energy-toll\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>GeekWire<\/em><\/a>, the report states that Microsoft&rsquo;s carbon emissions increased 25 percent in 2025, totalling 34 million metric tons \u00ab\u00a0without select interventions.\u00a0\u00bb Microsoft says this was \u00ab\u00a0driven primarily by the expansion of our datacenter infrastructure,\u00a0\u00bb as well as the company&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.microsoft.com\/on-the-issues\/2025\/02\/13\/progress-on-the-road-to-2030\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">decision last February<\/a> to stop purchasing \u00ab\u00a0non-additional, unbundled renewable energy certificates.\u00a0\u00bb <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several years ago, Microsoft set itself a goal to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2020\/1\/16\/21068799\/microsoft-carbon-capture-climate-change\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">be carbon negative by 2030<\/a>, meaning it will need to remove more carbon emissions t \u2026<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/tech\/963728\/microsoft-sustainability-report-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read the full story at The Verge.<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Microsoft may once again be struggling to keep up with its own climate goals, according to its 2026 sustainability report.
