But cars have changed significantly, adding sensors, cameras, and high-powered computers to power advanced driver assist features and anti-crash technology.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Now, Volvo wants to put those gadgets to work for seatbelts. Modern safety belts use <a href=\"https:\/\/auto.howstuffworks.com\/car-driving-safety\/safety-regulatory-devices\/seatbelt5.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">load limiters<\/a> to control how much force the safety belt applies on the human body during a crash. Volvo says its new safety belt expands the load-limiting profiles from three to 11 and increases the possible number of settings, enabling it to tailor its performance to specific situations and individuals.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-embed\"><a href=\"https:\/\/platform.theverge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/06\/New-multi-adaptive-safety-belt_Supers.mp4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">View Link<\/a><\/div>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">As such, Volvo can use sensor data to customize seatbelts based on a person\u2019s height, weight, body shape, and seating position. A larger occupant, for example, would receive a higher belt load setting to help reduce the risk of a head injury in a crash, while a smaller person in a milder crash would receive a lower belt load setting to reduce the risk of rib fractures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">During a crash, Volvo says its vehicles\u2019 safety systems will share sensor data \u2014 such as direction, speed, and passenger posture \u2014 with multi-adaptive seatbelts to determine how much force to apply to the occupant\u2019s body. The company limits the top speed on all of its vehicles to 112 mph\u00a0\u2014\u00a0notably below the 155 mph established by a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoevolution.com\/news\/gentlemens-agreement-not-so-fast-sir-47736.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cgentleman\u2019s agreement\u201d between Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and BMW<\/a> to reduce the number of fatalities on the Autobahn. <\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">The new seatbelts will debut in <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/752752\/volvo-ex60-first-look\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Volvo EX60<\/a>, the automaker\u2019s mid-sized electric SUV which is scheduled to come
