Spaceballs<\/em>, which was first released nearly 40 years ago, is getting a sequel in 2027 from Amazon MGM Studios.<\/p>\n

A Spaceballs 2<\/em> announcement trailer posted Thursday<\/a> doesn\u2019t have any solid details besides the date, though it does poke fun at the entertainment industry\u2019s obsession with franchises and spinoffs by listing many of them out. (I particularly liked \u201cDCU attempt Number 1\u201d and \u201cDCU attempt Number 2.\u201d)<\/p>\n

Mel Brooks, who played Yogurt (a Yoda parody) in the original film, also makes an appearance. \u201cAfter 40 years, we asked, \u2018what do the fans want?\u2019\u201d he says. \u201cBut instead, we\u2019re making this movie.\u201d The film\u2019s logline, according to Variety<\/em><\/a>, is \u201cA Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brooks will be reprising the role of Yogurt, and Bill Pullman and Rick Moranis will be back as Lone Starr and Dark Helmet, Deadline<\/em> reports<\/a>.
