Held under the title \u00ab\u00a0No Kings\u00a0\u00bb (with, as you&rsquo;ll see, one conspicuous exception), they&rsquo;re the latest in several mass protests, following April&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/644237\/millions-protested-hands-off-estimates-trump-musk-doge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hands Off events<\/a> and a wave of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/tesla\/639183\/tesla-takedown-protest-march-29-elon-musk-doge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tesla Takedown demonstrations<\/a> in March.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">As <em>The Verge&rsquo;s<\/em> Tina Nguyen went to downtown DC, we also sent reporters to No Kings demonstrations spanning the country, plus a \u00ab\u00a0No Tyrants\u00a0\u00bb event in the UK. How would they unfold after promises of \u00ab\u00a0very heavy force\u00a0\u00bb <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/white-house-clarify-trumps-threat-heavy-force-military\/story?id=122746297\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">against protesters<\/a> in the capital, after the deployment of thousands of military troops <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/06\/12\/us\/politics\/california-trump-lawsuit-protests.html\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/06\/12\/us\/politics\/california-trump-lawsuit-protests.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a move<\/a> a judge has bluntly called illegal, and after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbclosangeles.com\/news\/local\/kristi-noem-blames-democratic-officials-for-making-ice-raids-in-la-harder\/3722800\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nbclosangeles.com\/news\/local\/kristi-noem-blames-democratic-officials-for-making-ice-raids-in-la-harder\/3722800\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">promises to \u00ab\u00a0liberate\u00a0\u00bb<\/a> the city of Los Angeles from its \u00ab\u00a0burdensome leadership\u00a0\u00bb by local elected officials?
