{"id":604,"date":"2025-06-24T06:01:54","date_gmt":"2025-06-24T02:01:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.actutech.app\/openais-first-ai-device-with-jony-ive-wont-be-a-wearable\/"},"modified":"2025-06-24T06:01:54","modified_gmt":"2025-06-24T02:01:54","slug":"openais-first-ai-device-with-jony-ive-wont-be-a-wearable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.actutech.app\/en\/openais-first-ai-device-with-jony-ive-wont-be-a-wearable\/","title":{"rendered":"OpenAI\u2019s first AI device with Jony Ive won\u2019t be a wearable"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-caption=\"Jony Ive onstage at the Code Conference in 2022.\" data-portal-copyright=\"\" data-has-syndication-rights=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.theverge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/06\/gettyimages-1421760684.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;crop=20.3837890625,7.0964056595483,56.0400390625,68.566364941266\" \/><figcaption>\n\tJony Ive onstage at the Code Conference in 2022.\t<\/figcaption><\/p><\/figure>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Thanks to a related trademark lawsuit, we know what OpenAI and Jony Ive&rsquo;s first AI device <em>won&rsquo;t<\/em> be.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">In court filings submitted this month, leaders from io &#8211; the consumer hardware team OpenAI <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/671838\/openai-jony-ive-ai-hardware-apple\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recently acquired<\/a> from Jony Ive&rsquo;s design studio for $6.5 billion &#8211; testified that the first device they plan to release won&rsquo;t be an \u00ab\u00a0in-ear device\u00a0\u00bb or a \u00ab\u00a0wearable.\u00a0\u00bb They also say the AI device won&rsquo;t ship until \u00ab\u00a0at least\u00a0\u00bb 2026. <\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">\u00ab\u00a0The prototype Sam Altman referenced <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/sama\/status\/1925242282523103408\" target=\"_blank\">in the video<\/a> is at least a year away from being offered for sale,\u00a0\u00bb Tang Tan, io&rsquo;s chief hardware officer and a former Apple design leader, said in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/25981887-declaration-of-tang-yew-tan-in-support-of-defendants-opposition-to-plaintiff-iyo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a June 16th declaration<\/a>. \u00ab\u00a0Its design is not yet finalized, but it is not an in-ear device, nor a wearable device.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Over the weekend, OpenAI was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/690858\/jony-ive-openai-sam-altman-ai-hardware\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">forced to remove public references to the io brand<\/a> (which stands for \u00ab\u00a0input\/output\u00a0\u00bb) due to a temporary restraining order that was granted on behalf of an audio device startup called Iyo. To support <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/25981884-iyo-v-io-complaint\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">its case that OpenAI willfully infringed on its trademark<\/a>, Iyo provides emails showing that leaders from io and OpenAI, including CEO Sam Altman, knew about its existence and even asked to demo the product &#8211; a yet-to-be-released, in-ear headphone <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iyo.audio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bil \u2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/openai\/691737\/openai-jony-ive-chatgpt-io-ai-device-wearable-headphone-lyo-lawsuit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read the full story at The Verge.<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jony Ive onstage at the Code Conference in 2022.
