Instead, Newell is acquiring Oceanco, the yacht-building company that\u2019s creating his <a href=\"https:\/\/luxurylaunches.com\/transport\/gabe-newell-upcoming-superyacht-09012025.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$400 million super ship<\/a>, as reported <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boatinternational.com\/boat-pro\/news\/oceanco-yacht-builder-sold-to-gabe-newell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">earlier by <em>Boat International<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oceancoyacht.com\/new-chapter-gabe-newell\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a post about the change<\/a>, Oceanco says Newell\u2019s interest in the brand comes from a \u201clifelong fascination with the sea\u201d and \u201ca deep respect for the people who live and work on it.\u201d Oceanco is based in the Netherlands, and it has changed leadership a few times since its founding in 1987, with private investor Mohammed Al Barwani <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boatinternational.com\/yacht-market-intelligence\/brokerage-sales-news\/superyacht-builder-oceanco-under-new-ownership--4673\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">helming the company<\/a> for the past 15 years before Newell came along.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Along with Newell\u2019s 364-foot-long superyacht, Oceanco developed Amazon founder Jeff Bezos\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boatinternational.com\/yachts\/news\/jeff-bezos-koru-yacht-best-pics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$500 million sailing yacht, Koru<\/a>, which stretches 417 feet long. It\u2019s also behind <a href=\"https:\/\/www.superyachtfan.com\/yacht\/kaos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Kaos sailing superyacht<\/a> owned by Walmart heir Nancy Walton Laurie, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.superyachtfan.com\/yacht\/bravo-eugenia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Bravo Eugenia<\/a>, owned by Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Newell has a growing fleet of yachts as well, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/luxurylaunches.com\/transport\/gabe-newell-tranquility-superyacht-to-be-upgraded.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oceanco-built Draak<\/a> (formerly called the Tranquility) and <a href=\"https:\/\/luxurylaunches.com\/transport\/gabe-newell-rocinante-superyacht-10092024.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Rocinante superyacht<\/a>, built by German yacht-maker L\u00fcrssen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">As for what Newell plans to do now that he\u2019s the head of a big superyacht builder, Oceanco puts it pretty simply: \u201cHis first decision? Leave the team alone. Seriously. Oceanco has vision and integrity, and a culture that actually works.
