Yesterday afternoon, the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) posted a piece of disgusting propaganda<\/a> that glorifies the concept of a militarized police state forcefully entering people\u2019s homes and businesses and leading them away in handcuffs and zip ties \u2014 all set to the classic Pok\u00e9mon <\/em>theme song and using numerous pieces of obviously copyrighted imagery from the \u201890s TV show.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no chance The Pok\u00e9mon Company, notorious for protecting their family-friendly reputation and profits with legal action<\/a>, would let that fly, right? <\/p>\n

Don\u2019t hold your breath: The Pok\u00e9mon Company\u2019s former chief legal officer Don McGowan (who spent nearly 12 years there, as well as multi-year stints at Bungie and Microsoft) thinks there\u2019s no way<\/a> that his former company would sue. <\/p>\n

\u201cEven if I was still at the company I wouldn\u2019t touch this, and I\u2019m the most trigger-happy CLO [Chief Legal Officer] I\u2019ve ever met. This will blow over in a couple of days and they\u2019ll be happy to let it,\u201d he told <\/a>IGN<\/a>.<\/em> <\/p>\n

Why? One reason is that like some other executives<\/a> Trump has previously and corruptly leveraged, some of The Pok\u00e9mon Company\u2019s leaders personally<\/em> depend on the US\u2019s good graces: \u201cMany of their execs in the USA are on green cards,\u201d he said. Another reason, he says, is that The Pok\u00e9mon Company doesn\u2019t want the press. <\/p>\n

As Kotaku<\/em> points out<\/a>, the DHS video may be showing off raids against significant criminals, but ICE is currently under fire for snatching up US citizens. The Supreme Court also recently cleared the way<\/a> for ICE to stop people based on the color of their skin, the jobs they perform, and the language they speak.<\/p>\n
