Netflix has been investing a lot of time and energy into gaming, but the company sees its work on games as part of a broader initiative around interactivity, co-CEO Greg Peters said in today\u2019s Q3 2025 earnings call.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve mostly talked so far about our work in this space as games because that\u2019s an easy shorthand,\u201d he said. \u201cBut we see this initiative as more about interactivity broadly. How does interactivity become complementary to linear storytelling? How is it able to unlock whole new entertainment experiences?\u201d As an example, he mentioned real-time voting<\/a>, which Netflix is currently testing<\/a> with Dinner Time Live With David Chang<\/em> and plans to use with its live Star Search<\/em> revival<\/a> in January. \u201cWe expect to provide other interactive features to deepen engagement with live events as we go in the future,\u201d Peters said.<\/p>\n

Recently, Netflix has also shaken up its gaming strategy<\/a> to focus in part on multiplayer party games, including a batch that you\u2019ll be able to play on your TV<\/a> by using your smartphone as a controller. \u201cThese games are super easy to access,\u201d Peters said. \u201c\u2029It\u2019s just like our series and films. You scroll to the games tab, you pick whatever you want, click it, and you\u2019re in. You don\u2019t need a special controller \u2014 that\u2019s key to this access.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the \u201cyears ahead,\u201d Netflix expects that \u201ccreators will really find interesting and novel ways to unlock all of the power that is in this incredibly advanced controller that we all happen to have in our pockets, which, of course, is our phones,\u201d Peters said.<\/p>\n

The company is also putting its efforts into offering games based on its own franchises, games for kids, and more mainstream titles like Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy \u2014 The Definitive Edition<\/em>.<\/p>\n

With its approach, Netflix sees that it \u201cnot only extends the audience\u2019s engagement with a story, but it creates a synergy that reinforces both mediums, the interactive and the non-interactive side,\u201d according to Peters. \u201cIt drives engagement and drives retention, therefore supports the business.\u201d Down the line, the company is going to \u201cramp our investment in this area judiciously,\u201d but Netflix is \u201cextremely excited about the progress we\u2019ve got ahead of us.\u201d<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
