Amazon has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aboutamazon.com\/news\/transportation\/smart-glasses-amazon-delivery-drivers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">just revealed<\/a> those \u201cAmelia\u201d glasses to the world \u2014 with a built-in display and an always-on camera to assist drivers as they go. <\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">They can help drivers find the right packages inside their delivery vans, give them turn-by-turn directions to the right address, and take a hands-free photo of a successful delivery instead of needing them to whip out a phone. (Ever had an Amazon driver tell you, \u201cPlease don\u2019t take your package yet, I have to take a pic first?\u201d)<\/p>\n<div class=\"image-slider\">\n<div class=\"image-slider\">\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.theverge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/10\/amazon-delivery-driver-glasses-3.webp?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;crop=7.8125,0,84.375,100\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" data-has-syndication-rights=\"1\" data-caption=\"\" data-portal-copyright=\"Image: Amazon\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.theverge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/10\/amazon-delivery-driver-glasses-2.webp?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;crop=7.8125,0,84.375,100\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" data-has-syndication-rights=\"1\" data-caption=\"\" data-portal-copyright=\"Image: Amazon\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.theverge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/10\/amazon-delivery-driver-glasses-1.webp?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;crop=7.8125,0,84.375,100\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" data-has-syndication-rights=\"1\" data-caption=\"\" data-portal-copyright=\"Image: Amazon\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.theverge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/10\/download-1.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;crop=7.7840909090909,0,84.431818181818,100\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" data-has-syndication-rights=\"1\" data-caption=\"\" data-portal-copyright=\"Image: Amazon\" \/>\n\t<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">\u201cIf there are hazards, or a need to navigate complex environments like apartment buildings, the glasses will guide [drivers] safely to their destination,\u201d Amazon claims, showing off mocked-up video clips of what drivers should see as they work. <\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">As you can see in the photo below, the glasses aren\u2019t standalone \u2014 they\u2019re paired with a vest containing a swappable battery, and a button the driver can press to take a photo of each successful delivery.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.theverge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/10\/download-2.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;crop=0,0,100,100\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" data-has-syndication-rights=\"1\" data-caption=\"\" data-portal-copyright=\"Image: Amazon\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">There seems to be a dial surrounding that button as well, and Amazon writes that the controller also has a dedicated emergency button to call for help. Amazon hasn\u2019t said which sensors are inside the glasses, but images suggest they may have two cameras: one centered above the nose, and one above the temple.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Amazon also says the glasses have transition lenses \u2014 they\u2019ll tint stronger in sunlight, and get clearer without \u2014 and support prescription lenses.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.theverge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/10\/download-1-1.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;crop=0,0,100,100\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" data-has-syndication-rights=\"1\" data-caption=\"\" data-portal-copyright=\"Image: Amazon\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">While the company isn\u2019t saying exactly when or where the glasses might roll out, the company says hundreds of drivers have already tested early versions of the tech, and that it wants to put more AI features inside.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">\u201cWe anticipate future versions of the glasses will provide real-time defect detection, where the glasses can help notify drivers if they\u2019ve mistakenly dropped a package at a customer doorstep that does not correspond with the house or apartment number on the package, detect hazards like low light and adjust the lenses, notify that there\u2019s a pet in the yard, and more,\u201d writes Amazon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">The frames don\u2019t seem particularly thick in these photos Amazon has released, but \u2014 like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/tech\/801684\/meta-ray-ban-display-review-smart-glasses-ai-wearables\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Meta Display<\/a> and other glasses with built-in screens \u2014 they don\u2019t seem quite at the level of consumer eyewear just yet. <\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theinformation.com\/articles\/amazon-developing-ar-glasses-challenge-meta\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Information<\/em> reported in September<\/a> that Amazon\u2019s glasses-with-a-screen for consumers, codename \u201cJayhawk\u201d, might launch for consumers in 2026 or 2027. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/amazon-developing-driver-eyeglasses-shave-seconds-off-deliveries-sources-say-2024-11-11\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Reuters, <\/em>which originally reported<\/a> on the glasses for delivery drivers, wrote that those were codenamed \u201cAmelia,\u201d and indeed some of Amazon\u2019s images today have the word \u201cAmelia\u201d in their filename.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Unsurprisingly, Amazon\u2019s blog post doesn\u2019t discuss any possible <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/policy\/2024\/10\/2\/24260609\/amazon-illegally-refused-to-bargain-with-unionized-delivery-drivers-says-nlrb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ethical concerns that workers<\/a> or customers might have as these glasses monitor the \u201clast mile\u201d of the delivery process.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Remember when word got out that
