Xbox is making some big changes \u2014 again<\/a>. On June 10th, a few months after Asha Sharma took over as CEO<\/a>, she and newly-promoted chief content officer Matt Booty sent a memo<\/a> to staff warning of an \u201cXbox reset.\u201d The business, they said, is facing significant challenges, including a 3 percent \u201caccountability margin,\u201d massively higher component prices for consoles due to the memory and storage shortage, and an \u201cover extended\u201d studio system.<\/p>\n

That same day, The Verge<\/a><\/em> and Bloomberg<\/a><\/em> reported that the Xbox division was planning layoffs in July. The cuts, expected to be announced on July 6th, could include studio closures or spinoffs. The Verge<\/em>\u2018s Tom Warren reported on June 30th that Microsoft is looking at closing at least five studios<\/a> and potentially canceling games like Blade<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Under Sharma\u2019s leadership, Xbox has already made some other major changes, including upcoming price hikes for Xbox consoles<\/a>, lowering Game Pass prices<\/a> but cutting out new Call of Duty<\/em> games, rebranding Xbox to XBOX<\/a>, and making both Gears of War: E-Day<\/em> and Clockwork Revolution<\/em> Xbox console exclusives<\/a>.<\/p>\n
