But Sony isn&rsquo;t shutting down production as quickly as we thought, either. Two months after reports that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/games\/961203\/sony-austria-thalgau-end-disc-production-microlenses-instead\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sony&rsquo;s last discmaking plant was already being repurposed<\/a>, the company&rsquo;s discmaking division now says that one widely reported detail was wrong.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Originally, it sounded like the division&rsquo;s president said the Thalgau plant would produce 90 percent fewer discs in 2028 &#8211; but the reality is it will only produce 10 percent fewer discs in 2028, an unnamed Sony DADC spokesperson <a href=\"https:\/\/game.substack.com\/p\/sonys-playstation-disc-plant-is-losing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told <em>Game<\/em> journalist Brian Crecente<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00ab\u00a0To clarify and avoid any misleading informa \u2026<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/games\/991806\/sony-disc-plant-90-percent-10-percent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read the full story at The Verge.<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sony isn&rsquo;t backing away from its decision to kill the video game disc in January 2028.
